🌿 Plant Care Tips

Acalypha hispida, commonly known as the Chenille Plant, is a striking evergreen shrub known for its long, fuzzy, red to deep pink flower spikes that resemble caterpillars. These unique flowers bloom sporadically throughout the year, adding vibrant color and texture to indoor spaces.

Native to: This plant is native to the tropical regions of New Guinea and Malaysia.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. During the growing season, water freely and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. In winter, reduce watering and keep the soil just barely moist to avoid root rot.

Light: Acalypha hispida thrives in full sun to partial shade. When grown indoors, place it near a south-facing window where it can receive plenty of bright, indirect light. Avoid extended periods of direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and flowers.

Humidity: High humidity is essential for the Chenille Plant. If grown indoors, consider using a humidifier or placing a tray of water near the plant to increase the humidity around it. Ideal humidity levels are between 45% and 50%.

Temperature: This plant prefers warm temperatures between 18°C to 27°C.

Fertiliser: Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season to support healthy growth and flower production.

Pruning: Prune the Chenille Plant regularly to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth. Deadhead the flower clusters before they fade completely to stimulate reblooming. A hard pruning in early spring can help rejuvenate the plant and promote more vigorous flowering.
