Red Flowering Plants

A hot border mixes red with orange and yellow and plenty of green to hold it together. Pick a few reds that flower at different times so the scheme keeps its heat from summer into autumn.

Many do. Bees work the open flowers, and tubular red blooms are a favourite of the hummingbird hawk-moth. It is one of the easiest colours to plant for wildlife interest.

Several here keep going for months, especially with faded flowers removed. Combining early and late varieties gives you red in the border from early summer through autumn.

Dark purple and bronze foliage makes red look deep and luxurious, while silver and green keep it fresh and bright. Both work, so it comes down to the mood you want.
