Description

The Campsis x tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' is the finest of the trumpet vines, a vigorous deciduous climber that erupts in great trusses of orange-red trumpet flowers from late summer into early autumn. This large-flowered hybrid outclasses the common trumpet creeper, with bigger, richer blooms that bees and butterflies adore. It clings by its own aerial roots, scrambling up a warm wall to put on a tropical-looking show just when the garden needs it most.

Rated RHS H5, it is hardy in most of the UK given the shelter and stored heat of a sunny wall. The top growth is deciduous, dying back over winter and bursting away again each spring to flower on the new season's shoots.

Train and tie it in against a warm wall or fence while it establishes; it self-clings by aerial roots, but a few wires or an obelisk help guide those first stems. Fast and dense, it makes a spectacular flowering screen, so it sits well in our screening and privacy range and at the back of a hot exotic border. They adjust faster to your light and humidity, put out new growth more quickly, and tend to establish stronger root systems long-term. It's completely normal for your plant to look a little tired or droopy after transit. This is called transit stress, and most plants bounce back within a week or two. You might see a yellow leaf or some drooping, don't panic, and resist the urge to overwater or start repotting straight away.
