Hoya vangviengiensis is an epiphytic plant discovered in Vang Vieng, Laos, in 2010. It features thick, glossy green leaves and produces clusters of star-shaped, creamy-white flowers with a sweet fragrance. This species is well-suited to indoor environments where its preference for warm and humid conditions can be met.
The plant’s natural habitat in shaded limestone regions gives it a unique resilience to indirect light and moderate temperature ranges, making it adaptable to indoor cultivation. Its compact growth habit makes it suitable for pots, hanging baskets, or trellises.
Native to
Hoya vangviengiensis is native to Vang Vieng, Laos, and Yunnan Province, China. It grows epiphytically on moss-covered branches in shaded, humid limestone areas.
Water
Allow the soil to dry out partially between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring good drainage to avoid root rot. During active growth in spring and summer, water more frequently, but reduce in the cooler months.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which may scorch the leaves. Insufficient light can result in leggy growth and reduced flowering.
Humidity
Thrives in high humidity levels, ideally above 70%. Consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water to maintain moisture levels, particularly during dry winter months. This high humidity preference also makes it a candidate for terrarium cultivation.
Temperature
Grows well in typical household temperatures of 18-24°C. Protect the plant from cold drafts and avoid exposing it to temperatures below 10°C to prevent stress or damage.
