Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold' is a striking golden form of the broad-leafed Hoya latifolia, with large, thick leaves that emerge a rich buttery yellow and mature through gold and chartreuse into a warmer olive-green. The bold veining of the species is preserved throughout, giving every leaf structure and depth.
Origins
Hoya latifolia is native to Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Thailand, and parts of Indonesia, where it grows as an epiphyte in lowland and lower-montane tropical forests. 'Pot of Gold' is a cultivated golden form selected for its distinctive yellow leaf colour.
Soil and Substrate
As a broad-leafed epiphyte, Hoyas needs a sharply drained, airy substrate. Our Hoya Mix is ideally suited. The chunky blend of bark, perlite, coco husk, and charcoal keeps roots aerated, drains freely to prevent rot.
All plants are covered by our 7-day live arrival guarantee. Hoya latifolia ‘Pot of Gold' is an easy-care houseplant. It needs bright indirect light, watering only once the compost has dried right through, a little extra humidity and a minimum temperature of 10°C. It is listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Easy care
Bright, indirect light
Bright, indirect light is best for this plant. It will tolerate some gentle morning or late afternoon sun, but avoid prolonged harsh midday or afternoon direct light, which can cause scorching or stress the leaves. Good light levels are especially important for strong, compact growth and for encouraging flowering. Hoyas kept in lower light often grow more slowly and are less likely to bloom. If natural light is limited, a grow light can help maintain healthy development.

Allow the substrate to dry out between waterings. Hoyas store moisture in their fleshy leaves and prefer to be slightly underwatered rather than overwatered. In winter, reduce watering further as growth slows.
Learn more →Prefers a little extra humidity
Thick, fleshy-leaved Hoyas store moisture in their leaves and tolerate drier air without complaint. Thinner-leaved species lose moisture faster and prefer higher humidity, ideally above 60%.
Keep above 10°C · Happy at normal room temperature
16–28°C suits most species. Keep above 12°C at all times and away from cold draughts. Hoyas benefit from a slight temperature drop at night, which can encourage flower production.
Feed monthly with a balanced fertiliser from spring to autumn, and let it rest over winter.
Listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs. Plants still are not food, so a determined chewer may get an upset stomach.
Hoya plants, also known as wax plants, are beautiful, low-maintenance houseplants that thrive when their natural growing conditions are mimicked. Found draped under trees in their natural habitat, Hoyas use other plants as support to climb or trail. By prov...
