🌿 Plant Care Tips

Begonia epipsila is a compact rhizomatous species native to the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. It typically grows in moist, shaded environments between 500 and 1000 metres in elevation, either as a terrestrial or epiphytic plant. This begonia has rounded, smooth leaves with a glabrous (hairless) upper surface—reflected in the species name, which derives from Greek for “without hairs on top.” The upper surface of the leaves is mid-green, while the undersides often show a reddish tone.

It produces small, white flowers with yellow centres that are lightly fragrant, typically blooming in spring. Growth remains relatively compact, with the plant usually reaching about 10 cm in both height and spread, which makes it perfect for growing indoors in smaller spaces or enclosed environments such as terrariums.

Native to: Southeastern Brazil, particularly in the Atlantic Forest biome at mid-elevations

Water: Maintain evenly moist soil; allow the top third of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; avoid exposure to direct sunlight which can scorch the foliage

Humidity: Requires high humidity levels (60–80%); recommended for terrarium culture due to its compact size and humidity needs

Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18–24°C; avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C

All plants are shipped in their plastic nursery pot unless otherwise stated.

Plant pot sizes can fluctuate +/- 1cm.

We recommend to always size up your decorative pot by 1-2cm larger than the stated plant pot size. For example if you are purchasing a 12cm plant, you should purchase a 14cm decorative pot to ensure it will fit correctly.

We pride ourselves on the love and care with give our plants. Our entire team are plant obsessives at heart and so we go above and beyond to care for the plants we have in stock.

That said, plants are living beings and may differ slightly from the photo provided unless otherwise stated. Small leaf imperfections may be present and won't be compensated for.

Some plants such as Begonia may suffer slight leaf melt when shipped. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about.

All our plants are stores and/or grown in our nursery under LED lighting so they are in active growth when arriving with you.

The conditions in our nursery are a minimum of 60% humidity and 19C year round.
