🌿 Plant Care Tips

Anthurium superbum is a striking Anthurium renowned for its robust, highly textured upright rosette of leathery leaves. The foliage is deep green with prominent central veins and a pebbly texture, often exhibiting a purplish hue on the undersides of new leaves. This species grows as an epiphyte or terrestrial plant in its natural habitat, forming a nest-like structure that captures organic debris and moisture. Mature plants can reach heights of 60–90 cm.

Native to: Anthurium superbum is endemic to the moist lowland forests of Ecuador and Peru in western South America. It thrives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, often growing as an epiphyte on trees or rocks.

Water: Maintain consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. Water when the top 2–3 cm of the soil feels dry to the touch. During the growing season (spring and summer), this may require watering once a week; reduce frequency in cooler months. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage to prevent root rot.

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. A location near an east or north-facing window is ideal. In lower light conditions, growth may slow, and leaf colouration may become less vibrant.

Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 80%. In typical indoor environments, especially during winter, humidity may be insufficient. Increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray with water, or grouping it with other plants. Due to its humidity needs, Anthurium superbum is also suitable for large terrariums.

Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Protect from temperatures below 13°C and avoid sudden temperature drops. Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents to prevent stress.
