Anadendrum microstachyum is a tropical aroid native from SE. China to Central Malesia, where it typically grows as an epiphyte in moist, shaded environments. Its growth habit and tolerance for lower light make it well-suited for indoor or terrarium conditions. This plant has sleek leaves with a slightly trailing growth habit, adding a distinctive look when allowed to cascade from a container.
Water
Anadendrum microstachyum prefers consistently moist soil, but it’s essential to avoid waterlogging. Water when the top layer of soil begins to feel dry, ensuring good drainage in the potting mix to prevent root rot. A mix designed for aroids with added perlite or bark is ideal.
Light
This species thrives in low to moderate, indirect light. Bright indirect light is beneficial, though it can adapt to lower light levels. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it may scorch the leaves.
Humidity
High humidity, ideally around 60-80%, supports optimal growth for Anadendrum microstachyum, making it ideal for terrarium setups. Outside of a terrarium, a humidifier or regular misting can help maintain necessary moisture levels in the air.
Temperature
This plant does well in warm conditions, ideally between 18-26°C. It is sensitive to temperatures below 10°C, so it should be kept away from cold drafts and areas with fluctuating temperatures.
