The Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Winter Ruby' is a star jasmine with a brilliant seasonal trick. Through summer it produces clusters of pure white, pinwheel-shaped flowers that carry the intense, sweet jasmine fragrance the species is loved for. Then, as the temperatures drop, its glossy evergreen leaves turn rich shades of ruby-red and bronze, deepening through autumn and winter before returning to green in spring. It is a more compact, colourful form, perfect for a pot or a smaller wall.

Rated RHS H5 and a little hardier than the plain species, it is hardy across much of the UK, though it flowers and colours best in a warm, sheltered sunny spot. Being evergreen, it holds its foliage and its winter colour right through the cold months.

They adjust faster to your light and humidity, put out new growth more quickly, and tend to establish stronger root systems long-term. A plant that grows into your space will usually outperform one that was already big when it arrived.

What should I do when my plant arrives?
