Catnip (Nepeta cataria) Seeds

Yes, catnip is a hardy perennial that dies back in winter and regrows in spring. Plants can be short-lived, but they self-seed readily, so a clump usually keeps going. Cutting back after the first flush of flowers encourages fresh leaves.

Established clumps cope well with attention, but seedlings and bruised young plants can be flattened. Raise them in pots or cover them with a cloche or wire until they are well grown, then plant out.

Usually 7 to 15 days. Sow on the surface of moist compost and cover very lightly, keeping it moist but not wet until the seedlings appear.
