Description
Our three best-selling Mahonias in one set, chosen to keep yellow flowers coming from late summer right through to March. Mahonia 'Volcano' and Mahonia 'Meteor' are compact, soft-leaved forms of Mahonia eurybracteata that flower from August into November, followed by blue-black berries. Mahonia 'Winter Sun' then takes over from November to March with upright sprays of bright yellow flowers above bold, holly-like leaves.
All three are evergreen and easy to place, happy in sun or part shade, and 'Volcano' and 'Winter Sun' will cope with full shade too. 'Volcano' and 'Meteor' stay around 1 to 1.5m, so they suit borders and large pots, while 'Winter Sun' grows into a tall shrub for the back of a border or a shady corner. Their flowers are a welcome late food source for bees.
All three are rated RHS H5, hardy across most of the UK to around -15C.
