Please note: This is an Imperfect Plant
Our Imperfect Plants are healthy and ready to grow, but they show a little more character than those in our main range. These plants may have some cosmetic quirks such as old pest damage, slight browning, twisted or stunted growth, or a few damaged leaves. None of these issues affect their long-term health, and every plant is checked by our team to ensure it’s rooted and ready to thrive in your care.
By choosing an Imperfect Plant, you’re giving a perfectly good plant a second chance. It’s a simple way to grow your collection while helping us reduce waste and make our production more sustainable. Each one is unique, with its own story and charm, perfect for anyone who values growth in all its forms.
Due to the nature of these plants, Imperfect Plants are not eligible for exchanges or refunds.
Philodendron verrucosum 'Dutch Type' is a striking tropical aroid known for its velvety, heart-shaped leaves adorned with prominent light green veins and rich burgundy undersides. This particular cultivar, originating from the Netherlands, is distinguished by its classic form and is not to be confused with the 'Incensi' variety. As a climbing plant, it benefits from support structures like moss poles to encourage upright growth and showcase its impressive foliage.
Native to
The species Philodendron verrucosum is indigenous to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in countries such as Ecuador and Colombia, where it thrives in warm, humid environments.
Water
Maintain consistently moist soil, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the potting medium is well-draining. During the growing season, regular watering is essential, while in winter, reduce frequency to prevent waterlogged soil.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to mimic its natural understory habitat. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may result in leggy growth and reduced foliage vibrancy. An east-facing window or placement a few feet away from a south or west-facing window with filtered light is ideal.
Humidity
Thrives in high humidity environments, ideally between 70% and 90%. To maintain adequate humidity, especially during dry periods or in centrally heated homes, consider using a humidity tray, room humidifier, or placing the plant in a well-lit bathroom. Its humidity requirements make it well-suited for terrarium cultivation.
Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 21°C to 27°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C, as cold drafts can hinder growth. Maintaining a stable temperature environment will promote healthy development and vibrant foliage.
