Hosta 'Lakeside Little Tuft' is a must-have small plantain lily, forming a neat, dense tuft of pretty leaves. Each little leaf has a creamy-yellow centre framed by a thick green margin, building into a tidy mound that is perfect for the front of a border, a trough or a small pot.
Fully hardy and deciduous (RHS H7), this compact herbaceous perennial dies back completely in late autumn and reappears in mid to late spring, so a bare patch over winter is normal. Slender stems of purple flowers rise above the foliage in summer, visited by bees. Our what to expect guide covers how hardy exotics behave through the seasons.
Its compact habit makes it one of the best small hostas for pots, troughs and containers, and it brings neat detail to the edge of an exotic border. The summer flowers add it to the ranks of shade-loving plants for pollinators. Combine it with larger varieties such as Hosta 'Bobcat' for a layered display.
Every plant is nursery-grown, part of our wider hardy exotics range, and carefully packed to arrive in top condition.
All plants are covered by our 7-day live arrival guarantee. We pack every order in protective, sustainable packaging designed to keep your plants safe in transit, and every plant is checked before it ships. On the rare occasion something is not right on arrival, we will make it good, provided the plant is still in its original nursery pot.
Ordering in autumn or winter? Many hardy exotics arrive dormant or cut back right now. This is normal, and the best time to plant.

Arrived just like the photos - maybe even fuller. Healthy, well-acclimated, and straight into my collection with no issues.
Flawless leaves, stunning variegation, and clearly cared for by experts. It’s already a talking point in my home office.
Hard to find rare plants that are pet-safe. Ours arrived in perfect condition and looks amazing without any worry.
Hosta 'Lakeside Little Tuft' needs partial shade or full shade and moist but well-drained soil. It is very hardy, standing the coldest UK winters outdoors.
RHS H7 · Hardy Exotic · below −20°C
Keep the soil evenly moist through the first two summers, watering deeply in dry spells. Being a small hosta it is easily overwhelmed by slugs and snails, so protect the emerging shoots carefully. Mulch each spring with compost or leaf mould to hold moisture.
Clump-forming
Jul-Aug
Deciduous
Remove faded flower stems; cut foliage back after autumn collapse or tidy in late winter; divide congested clumps in spring.
Toxic to cats, dogs and horses if eaten. Hostas contain saponins that can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and loss of appetite in pets, so site with care where animals graze. The foliage is also a favourite of slugs and snails.
