Description

Three wild greens that foragers seek out, boxed up to grow in a bed, balcony trough or large pot. Bladder campion (Silene vulgaris) has narrow blue-green shoots with a sweet, pea-like taste. Good King Henry (Blitum bonus-henricus) is an old perennial potherb with spinach-like leaves and young shoots eaten like asparagus. 'Vert de Montmagny' is a French market dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), selected in the 1800s for larger, deeper green leaves with a pleasant bitterness for salads.

Sowing and growing

  • Sow March to May, indoors in modules or outdoors once the soil warms
  • Good King Henry and dandelion: about 0.5 to 1 cm deep. Bladder campion: on the surface, barely covered
  • Germination is slow and uneven, roughly 10 to 28 days; Good King Henry can be slower
  • Full sun to light shade in fertile, well-drained soil; all three manage in containers
  • Heights of about 30 to 60 cm
  • Pick young leaves and shoots from late spring; Good King Henry crops best from its second year
  • All three are hardy perennials

What you receive: three Piccolo Seeds packets, Bladder Campion, Good-King-Henry and Vert de Montmagny Dandelion, in a Piccolo gift box with growing tips and recipes inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

What seeds are in the Foraging Wild Herbs collection?

The box holds three packets: Bladder Campion, Good-King-Henry and Vert de Montmagny Dandelion. All three are traditional wild or semi-wild greens that are perennial and hardy in the UK. The box includes growing tips and recipes.

Can I grow these foraging herbs on a balcony?

Yes. Each grows well in a deep trough or a pot of 25 to 30 cm filled with good multipurpose compost. Keep them watered in dry spells and pick young leaves regularly for the most tender growth.

Is this seed collection a good gift?

It is a popular choice for cooks, gardeners and anyone curious about foraging, as it comes ready boxed with three packets and instructions. All three plants are easy perennials, so a single sowing keeps giving for years.

What is your returns policy?

We always aim to make sure our customers love our products, but if you do need to return an order within 14 days of purchase (not including plants*), or any items are damaged, we’re happy to help. Just email us directly at hello@growtropicals.com, and we’ll take you through the process.

Please note: we cannot be held liable for any packaging costs should the original packaging be discarded.

*Unfortunately we cannot accept returns of undamaged plants as these are perishable items and are not saleable upon return. If a plant is damaged, we will compensate for this as per our live arrival guarantee.

When will my order arrive and how much is shipping?

When placing your order, you can choose from three dispatch speeds to suit your needs: Economy (prepared and shipped within 4-5 days), Standard (3-5 days), or Express (dispatched the very next day). Please keep in mind that "dispatch" refers to the time it takes our team to prepare and pack your items before handing them over to the courier, not the total delivery time.

Shipping costs are based on your total order value and will be calculated at checkout, with free shipping automatically applied to all orders over £60. For a full breakdown of shipping prices see our Help Centre.

Additionally, to protect the health and quality of our live plants, orders containing plants are exclusively shipped Monday through Thursday. This careful scheduling prevents your plants from being stuck in a dark shipping depot over the weekend, ensuring they arrive at your door vibrant and healthy.
