This plant is closely related to Anthurium hutchisonii, a tropical species native to Panama and Colombia, where it thrives in wet tropical biomes. This plant typically grows as a subshrub or epiphyte, attaching itself to trees in the humid rainforest. Its large, lobed leaves are a defining feature, making it notable among other members of the Anthurium genus.
Native to
Anthurium hutchisonii is found in Panama and Colombia. It inhabits the wet tropical forests, thriving in high-humidity environments and dappled shade, often as an epiphyte clinging to trees.
Water
Keep the soil consistently moist but well-draining to prevent waterlogging. Use an aroid-specific soil mix and water when the top layer begins to dry out. During cooler months, reduce watering slightly while ensuring the plant does not dry out completely.
Light
Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn, while lower light conditions may reduce growth and leaf size. Ideal placement is near an east or north-facing window.
Humidity
High humidity levels, ideally 70% or higher, are essential for this species. Use a humidifier, mist the plant regularly, or place it on a tray of moist pebbles. Due to its humidity needs, smaller specimens are suitable for terrarium cultivation.
Temperature
Maintain warm indoor temperatures between 18–26°C. Avoid exposing the plant to cold drafts or temperatures below 15°C, as it is sensitive to cooler conditions. Stable temperatures promote optimal growth.
