Christmas Gifts

Start with what they already grow. Someone new to plants will get more out of an easy houseplant such as Epipremnum 'Happy Leaf' or the Chinese Money Plant, while a collector may prefer a plant starter kit with two less common plants and the potting mix to match.

If they have no space for another plant, choose something for the plants they already have, such as a watering can, a self watering olla or a plant book. When you are unsure, the e-gift card lets them pick for themselves.

We work with trusted partner nurseries to source and curate the best quality plants. Every plant is grown on and supplied at its healthiest, delivered across the UK and covered by our 7 day live arrival guarantee.

Once the plant arrives, unbox it straight away and keep it away from cold draughts and hot radiators while it settles in. A plant such as Tradescantia 'Nanouk' is forgiving of inconsistent care, and the Houseplant Care Cards are a useful extra for a new owner.

The Terrarium Bauble Kit contains an 8cm glass bauble, a Peperomia prostrata (string of turtles) and a Gynura aurantiaca 'Purple Passion'. Both plants like the warm, humid air the glass holds and are happy in bright, indirect light, so hang it in a window that does not get direct sun.

Pinch the Gynura back every so often to keep it compact inside the glass. If they would rather plant their own, the Terrarium Bauble is sold on its own, and there is more in Terrarium Supplies.

Plenty of plant lovers have run out of windowsill space. Books are a safe choice: Plant Names Simplified explains how to say botanical names and what they mean, and Books & Games has 1000 piece jigsaws for the quiet days after Christmas.

For something to unwrap and use straight away, Self Care has Kew Gardens soaps and hand creams. Candles, prints and decorations are in Home Accessories.

Not all of them. Epipremnum, Aglaonema and Ficus elastica can irritate the mouth and stomach of cats and dogs if chewed, so Epipremnum 'Happy Leaf' and Aglaonema 'Eyecatcher' are better for homes without curious pets.

The Chinese Money Plant, the Money Tree and the Areca Palm are generally considered safer choices. Always check the individual product page, and place any plant out of reach of pets that like to chew.

Pick a decorative pot a little wider than the plant's nursery pot, so the plant can sit inside it and be lifted out for watering. Check the size on the product page of both the plant and the pot before you order.

Small plants suit the Positano Geo Planter, which comes in several colours. The Elho Greenville Round has a built-in water reservoir that helps prevent overwatering, and there are more options in Plant Pots.
