Monstera punctulata is a rare aroid species native to the tropical rainforests of southern part of Mexico and in Central America. This climbing plant is recognised for its large, perforated leaves that develop fenestrations as it matures. In its juvenile stage, it features wholes leaves that elongate and display intricate perforations with age. A climbing plant by nature, Monstera punctulata benefits from the use of moss poles to support its vertical growth.
Native to
Monstera punctulata originates from the tropical rainforests of southern part of Mexico and in Central America, thriving in warm, humid conditions and partial shade beneath the forest canopy.
Water
Maintain consistent moisture by watering when the top 2–3 centimetres of the soil feel dry. Ensure the potting mix is well-draining to prevent waterlogging and potential root rot.
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal for Monstera punctulata. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorch, and insufficient light may slow its development.
Humidity
High humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 80%, are essential. Regular misting, a humidifier, or placing the plant on a water-filled pebble tray can help maintain optimal moisture. Its humidity needs also make it suitable for large terrariums.
Temperature
This plant thrives in warm indoor temperatures of 18°C to 27°C. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden changes in temperature to prevent stress and damage.
