Very recently described, Ceratostema loucianiae was originally identified as a subspecies of Ceratostemma villosa. It is a captivating plant species renowned for its dense, velvety foliage and vibrant flowers. Native to the high-elevation regions of a very small region in Ecuador, this epiphytic shrub thrives in cool, moist environments. Its elongated leaves are covered in fine hairs, creating a soft, textured appearance, while the bright red or purple, bell-shaped flowers emerge from the foliage, adding a striking pop of colour.

Ceratostema loucianiae is indigenous to the cloud forests of Ecuador, where it grows as an epiphyte in cool, humid conditions.
Water
Maintain consistent moisture by watering when the top 2–3 centimetres of soil feel dry. Ensure the potting mix is well-draining to prevent waterlogging and potential root rot.
Light
Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may slow development.
Humidity
High humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 80%, are essential. Regular misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a water-filled pebble tray can help maintain appropriate moisture in the air. Its humidity needs also make it suitable for large terrariums.
Temperature
This plant thrives in cool to intermediate indoor temperatures, preferring daytime temperatures below 29°C and nighttime temperatures between 4°C and 18°C. Protect it from frost and sudden temperature fluctuations to prevent stress and damage.
