Microgramma vaccinifolia is a small epiphytic fern in the genus Microgramma, known for delicate creeping rhizomes and compact, simple fronds. Its rhizomes are often covered in fine white pubescence, and its leaves remain quite small (typically a few centimetres or less), making it suitable for mounting or use in terrariums.
Native to:
This species is found in the southern Caribbean to tropical South America, including countries such as Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, and the Caribbean region. It grows as an epiphyte (on trees) in humid tropical forests.
Water:
Maintain consistently moist conditions without waterlogging. It should never dry out completely. Some growers water it every other day (in humid setups) or provide daily moisture via misting or high ambient humidity. Because it is sensitive to oversaturation, ensure excellent drainage or airflow around its mount or basket.
Light:
Give bright filtered light or bright indirect light; avoid direct sunlight, especially strong midday sun, as it may scorch the delicate fronds. In lower light it may grow more slowly or become less vigorous.
Humidity:
High humidity is essential, ideally above 70 %, to support healthy growth and prevent desiccation of fronds. Because of its humidity demands and small stature, this species is well‑suited to terrariums or vivarium settings.
Temperature:
Maintain warm tropical temperatures, typically between about 20 °C and 28 °C. Avoid exposing it to temperatures below ~15–18 °C.
