🌿 Plant Care Tips
Microgramma nitida is a vibrant, epiphytic fern known for its glossy, lance-shaped fronds that create a lush, green mantle. This fern can add a great texture to terrariums with its bright green leaves that are about 3-4 inches in length and up to 1 inch in width. It spreads slowly via creeping rhizomes, making it perfect for decorating terrarium walls and other surfaces.
Native to: Microgramma nitida is native to Central America and Mexico, where it grows on the bark of trees in humid, tropical forests.
Water: Water regularly to keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. If grown epiphytically, more frequent misting may be necessary to maintain adequate moisture.
Light: This fern thrives in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. It is well-suited to terrarium environments where light is filtered and diffused.
Humidity: Microgramma nitida requires high humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 90%. Use a humidifier or place the plant on a tray with pebbles and water to maintain the necessary humidity. This fern performs exceptionally well in the humid conditions of a closed terrarium.
Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 23°C to 26°C for optimal growth. This fern can tolerate temperatures as low as 5°C but thrives best in warm conditions. Avoid temperatures above 35°C to prevent heat stress.
