Arthrostemma parvifolium is a compact, bushy plant from the Melastomataceae family, native to the wet tropical regions of southern Mexico (Tabasco and Chiapas) through Guatemala and El Salvador. It features ovate, dark grey-green leaves with silvery veins and finely toothed edges. The undersides and stems display a deep red or burgundy hue. The plant produces four-petalled magenta-pink flowers with yellow anthers, blooming throughout the year under suitable conditions.
Reaching up to 45 cm in height and width, Arthrostemma parvifolium thrives in warm, humid environments, making it well-suited for indoor growing. Its preference for high humidity and indirect light also makes it an excellent candidate for terrariums.
Native to:
Southern Mexico (Tabasco and Chiapas) to El Salvador, in wet tropical biomes .
Water:
Maintain consistently moist soil, allowing the top third of the potting mix to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has adequate drainage .
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Position the plant within 1 metre of a north- or east-facing window, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch.
Humidity:
Requires high humidity levels, ideally above 70%. This makes it particularly suitable for terrarium environments.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 27°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 16°C.
