Episcia 'Pink Panther' is a stunning cultivar of Episcia prized for its unique foliage, which combines shades of green, pink, and silver in a mosaic-like pattern. The leaves are oval-shaped with a velvety texture, featuring light pink to blush-pink tones and silver veins that create a soft, shimmering effect. Episcia 'Pink Panther' also produces small, tubular flowers in shades of red or pink, adding an extra decorative element. Its compact, trailing habit makes it ideal for hanging baskets or small containers, where its vibrant foliage and cascading growth can be displayed beautifully.
This cultivar is relatively easy to care for as a houseplant, but it does best in humid environments with consistent warmth, making it an excellent candidate for terrariums. Its colourful leaves bring a tropical feel to indoor settings, and its low light tolerance adds versatility to its placement options.
Native to
Episcia species are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where they grow along the forest floor in humid, shaded conditions. These environments provide the indirect light and high humidity that Episcia 'Pink Panther' prefers.
Water
Water Episcia 'Pink Panther' when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Bottom-watering is recommended to avoid getting water on the delicate, velvety leaves, which can be prone to spotting. Reduce watering slightly in winter when growth slows.
Light
This plant thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate moderate light levels. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn and fading of the pink variegation. An east-facing window or a spot with filtered light is ideal for keeping its colours vibrant.
Humidity
Episcia 'Pink Panther' requires high humidity, ideally around 60% to 80%, which makes it suitable for terrariums or rooms with added humidity.
Temperature
This plant prefers warm temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 15°C, so avoid placing it near cold drafts or air conditioning. Stable, warm temperatures are essential for healthy growth and will encourage regular flowering throughout the year.
