Anthurium verapazense is a rare Anthuriun native to the tropical rainforests of Central America, particularly Belize and Guatemala. This species is characterised by its striking, heart-shaped leaves, which can vary in shape from deltoid to ovoid. The leaf lobes may point downward, outward, or inward, giving it a unique appearance. It produces inflorescences with a long, narrow spathe and a spadix that is typically 1.5 to 3 times longer than the petioles.
Native to:
Anthurium verapazense is native to the moist, shaded environments of the Atlantic slopes in Belize and Guatemala. It thrives in tropical forest conditions at elevations between 100 and 800 metres.
Water:
This plant requires consistently moist soil, though it is important to allow the top few centimetres to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. Ensure the pot has proper drainage to maintain healthy roots.
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal for Anthurium verapazense. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while low light conditions may slow growth and flowering. Place it near a window with filtered light for optimal growth.
Humidity:
High humidity levels, ideally around 80%, are necessary for this species. In indoor environments, especially during winter, supplement humidity with a humidifier, a pebble tray, or regular misting. Its high humidity requirements also make it an excellent candidate for terrariums if space permits.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 27°C for Anthurium verapazense. It is sensitive to cold and should be kept away from drafts or temperatures below 15°C. Stable warmth will encourage robust growth and vitality.
