Anthurium carlablackiae 'GPH001' x papillilaminum 'RA5' is a rare hybrid anthurium originally crossed in Canada, combining the distinctive traits of its parent plants. Anthurium carlablackiae is renowned for its dark, velvety leaves with prominent veining, while Anthurium papillilaminum, particularly the 'RA5' clone from collector Rory Antolak, is noted for its elongated, dark textured foliage. This hybrid is seems to lean much more into carla parentage with deep velvety leaves.
Native to The parent species of this hybrid are native to the tropical rainforests of Panama and Colombia, where they thrive in humid, shaded environments.
Water Maintain consistently moist but well-draining soil for this hybrid. Allow the top inch of the substrate to dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering, which can lead to root rot. During the active growing season, water more frequently, reducing the frequency during the cooler months.
Light Provide bright, indirect light to mimic the dappled sunlight of its natural understory habitat. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf scorching, while insufficient light may impede growth. An east or north-facing window is ideal for this plant.
Humidity This hybrid prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 70-80%. In the UK, indoor humidity can be low, especially during winter; thus, using a humidifier or placing the plant on a tray of moist pebbles can help maintain appropriate humidity levels. Its humidity requirements make it well-suited for terrarium cultivation.
Temperature Optimal temperatures range between 18-27°C (65-80°F). Protect the plant from cold drafts and avoid placing it near heating or cooling vents to prevent temperature fluctuations that could stress the plant.
