A distinctive little shingling Philodendron with heart-shaped leaves of unusual colouration. With its elegant leaves and easy-going nature, it makes an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts looking to add a rarer species to their collection. This species is particularly well-suited for terrarium growing or mounted to a plank, thriving in conditions that mimic its natural tropical habitat.
Native to: Philodendron pteropus is native to the rainforests of Peru, where it grows under the canopy in humid, shaded conditions.
Water: Water the Philodendron pteropus when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. This plant prefers consistently moist soil, but it is essential to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage to help manage the moisture levels effectively.
Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so it’s best to place it in a spot where it receives filtered light. It can also tolerate lower light conditions, making it versatile for various indoor locations.
Humidity: Philodendron pteropus prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 80%. In drier indoor environments, you can increase humidity by using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water. This species is also well-suited for terrariums, where the enclosed environment helps maintain the necessary humidity.
Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 18°C to 26°C for optimal growth. This plant does not tolerate cold well and should be kept away from temperatures below 15°C. A stable, warm environment will ensure its health and vitality.
