Crassula perforata 'Giant Form', commonly known as the 'String of Buttons', is a striking succulent characterised by its stacked, triangular, grey-green leaves edged with reddish margins. The ‘Giant Form’ features larger and thicker leaves compared to the standard species, with stems that can grow up to 1 metre in length. In spring, it produces clusters of tubular flowers in shades of white to yellowish with brown anthers, adding seasonal interest to its unique appearance.
As a cultivated variety, Crassula perforata 'Giant Form' does not have a specific native habitat, but its parent species originates from South Africa’s arid, sunny regions. Its ability to withstand dry conditions and adapt to indoor environments makes it a popular choice for succulent enthusiasts in the UK.
Native to:
Cultivated variety; parent species native to South Africa.
Water:
Use the ‘soak and dry’ method: water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. This prevents root rot. During winter, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows.
Light:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. Indoors, place near a window that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Insufficient light can result in leggy growth.
Humidity:
Adapts well to average indoor humidity levels. No additional humidity is required, making it suitable for typical household environments.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 18–24°C. Protect from temperatures below 10°C, as prolonged exposure to cold can cause damage.
