🌿 Plant Care Tips

Cercestis congensis is a tropical climbing aroid in the Araceae family, naturally found in the wet tropical forests of West to Central Africa, including Sierra Leone through the Congo Basin down to Angola, where it grows as a liana on trees in humid, shaded understory environments.

As a climbing tropical species, it develops elongated, arrow- or triangular-lobed leaves with prominent venation, and produces reddish berries at maturity in its native range.

Native to: Central and West Tropical Africa — specifically the Congo Basin region extending from Sierra Leone through to Angola — where it grows in shaded, humid forest understories as a climbing vine.

Water: Provide regular watering to keep the growing medium consistently moist but not soggy. Let the top of the substrate begin to dry slightly between waterings to avoid root rot; good drainage is essential.

Light: Offer bright, indirect light, mimicking the dappled light of its natural forest habitat. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch leaves and increase soil drying.

Humidity: High humidity is preferred — typically above 60 % — reflecting its rainforest origins. Misting or a humidifier can help maintain this.

Temperature: Maintain warm conditions, generally around 18–28 °C, with no cold drafts; this aligns with the stable warmth of its tropical native range.
