Begonia paleata is a rhizomatous sub-shrub native to the humid forests of southeastern Brazil, especially the Rio de Janeiro region. It produces rounded, textured leaves that are apple-green, often flushed with red at the veins and petiole; finer hairs may cover the surface. Clusters of pendant white flowers with yellow centres appear intermittently. The specific epithet “paleata” refers to its bristled, chaff-like leaf hairs 

This species thrives in consistently moist, well-aerated conditions with bright, indirect light. It generally does not require misting, but benefits from humidity of 50–70%. It does well in typical indoor temperatures of 18–24 °C and dislikes cool conditions below 12 °C.

Native to:
Southeastern Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). It grows in humid forest understorey, sporting fuzzy, rounded leaves that emerge apple-green with red ribs and mature into a deeper tone, often with fine trichomes 

Water:
Use a freely draining mix and allow the top third of the soil to dry before watering. 

Light:
Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch.

Humidity:
Optimum air humidity is 50–70%. Plant will grow okay in most houses as a houseplant. Supplement with a pebble tray or by grouping if humidity is low.

Temperature:
Maintain day temperatures of 18–24 °C and avoid dropping below 12–15 °C. Keep it away from cold drafts and direct heaters .
