🌿 Plant Care Tips

Begonia Amphioxus is a miniature, cane-stemmed begonia prized for its striking foliage pattern. Its leaves are small, pointed at both ends (hence the name “Amphioxus”), and bright green adorned with vivid scarlet-red polka dots reminiscent of Begonia maculata. The stems grow upright, reaching up to 75 cm, while the individual leaves remain delicate, creating a compact but visually appealing form.

Begonia Amphioxus grows best in controlled indoor conditions, particularly in terrariums or humid cabinets. Its upright growth and small leaves make it suitable for enclosed humid spaces, where it maintains steady leaf colour and prevents stress from dry air. Regular pinching or pruning can encourage bushier growth.

Native to: Borneo, where it grows in shaded tropical forest understories with consistently high humidity and filtered light. The plant naturally experiences warm, moist conditions with protection from strong direct sunlight.

Water: Water little and often to keep the compost lightly moist. Avoid waterlogging, which can quickly lead to stem or root rot.

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. East- or north-facing windows are recommended to avoid direct sun, which can scorch its delicate leaves.

Humidity: Very high humidity is essential, ideally above 70%, making terrariums or humid cabinets perfect. Regular misting alone is insufficient in typical UK indoor conditions.

Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between 20–28 °C. Keep above 16 °C and protect from cold draughts or sudden temperature drops.
