🌿 Plant Care Tips

Alocasia 'Serendipity' is a striking suspected hybrid known for its unique dark foliage and dramatic growth habit.

This plant was discovered by LariAnn Garner, a prominent figure in the world of aroid breeding, who discovered this particular variant at a nursery and recognised its potential. The hybrid was eventually named 'Serendipity' due to its unexpected discovery and the distinctive dark purplish hues that contrast with its green leaves, a feature that is rare among Alocasias.

Native to: Alocasia 'Serendipity' origins are unknown. However, like other Alocasias, it derives its lineage from tropical regions of Southeast Asia, where the genus naturally occurs in humid, shaded forest environments.

Water: This plant prefers consistently moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Allow the top layer of the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, ensuring that the potting mix is well-draining to prevent water from pooling around the roots.

Light: Alocasia 'Serendipity' thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth will slow, and the foliage may lose some of its vibrant colouration. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the leaves.

Humidity: High humidity levels, ideally above 60%, are essential for this plant to maintain its lush foliage. It is well-suited for terrariums or bathrooms where the air is naturally more humid. If grown in a typical indoor environment, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water to increase local humidity.

Temperature: Alocasia 'Serendipity' prefers warm conditions, with temperatures between 18°C to 26°C being ideal. It is sensitive to cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, which can cause stress and leaf drop.
