Ceropegia woodii is an attractive trailing succulent vine commonly known as String of Hearts. It produces slender, twining stems adorned with small, heart-shaped leaves that are dark green with lighter or silvery variegation on the surface and a purple underside. The plant develops a tuberous root system that stores water, allowing it to tolerate occasional drying out between waterings. In summer, it may produce delicate, lantern-shaped flowers with intricate patterns and subtle fragrance.

Ceropegia woodii grows as a long, cascading vine, making it ideal for hanging pots, shelves, or trailing over supports. Its stems can reach several metres in length indoors. The small leaves and lightweight stems make it very adaptable to indoor conditions, and it performs well with minimal attention, making it perfect for growing indoors in the UK.

Native to: Southern Africa, including South Africa, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe, where it grows on rocky hillsides and scrublands with well-drained soils and periods of drought.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. During active growth in spring and summer, water moderately; reduce watering significantly in autumn and winter. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It tolerates some direct morning or late afternoon sun but avoid strong midday sun through glass, which can scorch the leaves.

Humidity: Prefers average indoor humidity (40–60%) and does not require additional humidity, making it suitable for typical UK homes.

Temperature: Thrives between 15–25 °C. Keep above 10 °C and protect from cold draughts, as it is not frost-tolerant.
