🌿 Plant Care Tips

Philodendron scandens 'Lemon Lime' is a rarer form of Philodendron scandens, a vining aroid valued for its bright chartreuse foliage and reliable growth indoors. This selection is distinguished by its vivid yellow-green leaves that emerge almost fluorescent and mature to a slightly softer lime tone while retaining their brightness.

It produces slender, trailing or climbing stems with heart-shaped leaves typically 8–12 cm long when grown indoors. Like other members of the Araceae family, it is a hemiepiphytic climber in nature, using aerial roots to attach to supports.

Native to: The wild species Philodendron hederaceum is native to tropical regions of Central America and northern South America, including countries such as Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela and parts of Brazil. It grows in humid lowland rainforests where it climbs tree trunks beneath the forest canopy. The ‘Lemon Lime’ form is a horticultural cultivar and does not occur naturally in the wild.

Water: Allow the top 2–4 cm of compost to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly so that excess drains away, and avoid leaving the pot standing in water. It prefers evenly moist but not saturated compost. Reduce watering frequency in winter when growth slows, but do not allow the root ball to dry out completely.

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal to maintain the vibrant lime colouring. It tolerates moderate light levels, though growth may slow and stems may elongate. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, especially strong midday sun through glass, as this can scorch and pale the leaves.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally 50–70%. It adapts well to typical indoor humidity levels in UK homes but will produce stronger growth and larger leaves with slightly elevated humidity. Avoid placing near radiators or cold draughts.

Temperature: Best grown between 18–27°C. It should be kept above 15°C consistently. Avoid sudden temperature drops and cold windowsills in winter, as chilled roots can lead to leaf yellowing.
