Philodendron scandens ‘Brasil’ is a trailing aroid known for its variegated, heart-shaped leaves. The foliage emerges with a striking pattern of bright lime-green splashes against deep green, giving each leaf a unique marbled appearance. Stems are flexible and twining, producing new leaves continuously along their length, making it a vigorous indoor climber or trailer.

Philodendron scandens ‘Brasil’ grows well as a hanging plant or trained on a moss pole or trellis. Its vining habit allows it to cascade beautifully from shelves or planters, while regular pruning encourages bushier growth. It adapts well to typical indoor conditions, making it perfect for growing indoors in the UK.

Native to: Tropical regions of South America, particularly Brazil, where it grows as an understory plant in humid rainforests, climbing on trees or trailing over rocks and leaf litter.

Water: Water when the top third of the compost has dried out. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth but ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering slightly in winter while maintaining some moisture in the root zone.

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It tolerates medium light, but the variegation is more pronounced in brighter conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to higher humidity, ideally 50–70%. Average indoor humidity is sufficient, though higher humidity encourages more vibrant leaf colour.

Temperature: Thrives between 18–27 °C. Protect from temperatures below 15 °C and from cold draughts. Consistent warmth encourages steady growth and maintains leaf health.

The conditions in our nursery are a minimum of 60% humidity and 19C year round.
