Bulbophyllum eberhardtii is a striking orchid species known for its unusual umbel-shaped clusters of pink flowers with delicate spots. Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and southern China, this orchid thrives in cool to intermediate conditions at elevations between 1000 and 1500 metres. It is an epiphytic plant, growing naturally on trees in humid forests.
This species is ideal for indoor cultivation under warm-to-intermediate temperatures, ranging from 12°C to 22°C, making it adaptable to various indoor environments. It requires bright, filtered light but should not be exposed to direct sunlight, as this could scorch its leaves. The plant enjoys high humidity—ideally around 60-80%—which can be achieved through regular misting or by placing the plant in a more humid room such as a bathroom.
For watering, Bulbophyllum eberhardtii prefers consistently moist conditions, especially during active growth in warmer months. Water frequently, but ensure good drainage to avoid root rot. In the cooler months or when the plant is not actively growing, reduce watering slightly. This orchid can be mounted on tree fern or cork for better airflow around its roots, or grown in a basket with a coarse, well-draining orchid mix.
This species blooms during the warmer months, producing beautiful, long-lasting flowers that bounce delicately with air movement
