🌿 Plant Care Tips

Alocasia suhirmaniana 'Red Petiole' is a striking member of the Araceae family, renowned for its distinctive foliage. The plant features glossy, dark green, peltate leaves with prominent light-coloured veins. These leaves can reach up to 80 cm in length in their natural habitat, though they are typically smaller when cultivated indoors. The undersides of the leaves exhibit a deep purple hue, and the petioles are a vibrant red, contributing to the plant's unique appearance. 

Native to: Alocasia suhirmaniana is indigenous to a limited region in Kolaka Utara on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It thrives in moist, shaded areas of rainforests, particularly on slopes abundant with limestone. 

Water: Maintain consistently moist soil, ensuring it is well-draining to prevent waterlogging. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's crucial to balance moisture levels carefully.​

Light: Provide bright, indirect light to mimic the dappled sunlight of its native rainforest floor. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may hinder growth.​

Humidity: This species flourishes in high humidity environments, ideally between 60% and 90%. If indoor humidity is low, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water to increase moisture around it. Regular misting can also help maintain adequate humidity levels. ​

Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C. It is sensitive to cold drafts and should be kept away from temperatures below 15°C to prevent stress or damage.

All plants are shipped in their plastic nursery pot unless otherwise stated.

Plant pot sizes can fluctuate +/- 1cm.

We recommend to always size up your decorative pot by 1-2cm larger than the stated plant pot size. For example if you are purchasing a 12cm plant, you should purchase a 14cm decorative pot to ensure it will fit correctly.

We pride ourselves on the love and care with give our plants. Our entire team are plant obsessives at heart and so we go above and beyond to care for the plants we have in stock.

That said, plants are living beings and may differ slightly from the photo provided unless otherwise stated. Small leaf imperfections may be present and won't be compensated for.

Some plants such as Begonia may suffer slight leaf melt when shipped. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about.

All our plants are stores and/or grown in our nursery under LED lighting so they are in active growth when arriving with you.

The conditions in our nursery are a minimum of 60% humidity and 19C year round.
