Begonia 'Arctic Breeze' is a striking cultivar with metallic-like foliage and deep purple hues on the underside of its leaves. Its compact size and unique coloration provide visual interest, and its moderate growth habit makes it easy to maintain.
Native to: This cultivar belongs to the Begonia rex group, which originates from the humid, forested regions of Assam, India, and surrounding areas in Southeast Asia.
Water: Keep the soil slightly moist, allowing the top layer to dry between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as begonias are prone to root rot. Use lukewarm, low-lime water and ensure excess water drains away. Reduce watering during the winter months when growth slows.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may cause leggy growth and dull leaf colouration. An east or north-facing window is ideal.
Humidity: This plant will grow well outside of a terrarium or cabinet, however all tropical plants thrive with higher humidity levels. Crisping of some leaves can occur in typical household humidity but grouping plants together, or putting them in a bathroom or kitchen can help.
Temperature: Best kept in warm indoor conditions between 18°C and 24°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperature fluctuations, and avoid temperatures below 15°C in winter to prevent stress.
Regularly wipe the leaves to remove dust and enhance photosynthesis. Prune any brown or damaged leaves to encourage healthy new growth. During the growing season, from spring to early autumn, apply a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser every few weeks to support vibrant foliage.
