Hoya sp. Timor is a tropical, evergreen liana belonging to the Apocynaceae family, characterised by a vigorous climbing and trailing growth habit. This species is noted for its relatively large, elliptic to ovate leaves that feature a prominent, slightly recessed venation pattern across the blade.

The foliage is a deep, matte green with a thick, waxy texture typical of many Hoya species. New leaves emerge with a soft, lighter green hue before maturing into the dark, substantial foliage seen on established specimens. The secondary veins are visible and run nearly parallel toward the leaf margins, creating a structured, ribbed appearance. Its tolerance for indoor environments and architectural foliage makes it perfect for growing indoors, where it can be trained to climb a moss pole or trellis to showcase its natural growth habit.

Native to: The island of Timor, located in the southern part of the Malay Archipelago, where it grows in the warm, humid understory of tropical forests.

Water: Allow the growing medium to dry out by at least 1/2 of the pot depth before rewatering. Ensure the substrate is highly porous and the pot has excellent drainage to prevent root rot. During the winter months, reduce watering frequency significantly.

Light: Prefers bright filtered light to maintain its deep green colouration and promote healthy growth. It can tolerate some early morning sun, but direct midday sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorch.

Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity, ideally between 60–80%. While it is more resilient to average indoor air than thinner-leaved species, higher humidity will encourage faster growth and more successful establishment of aerial roots.

Temperature: Maintain stable indoor temperatures between 18–27 °C. Protect the plant from cold drafts and ensure it is not exposed to temperatures below 15 °C, as it is a strictly tropical species.
