Anthurium 'Donnie Darko' is a plant we acquired and subsequently named, found as a one-off in an Ecuadorian nursery by a friend of ours. They whatsapped me a picture and I bought it on the spot. We don't know the origin or parents, so we gave it the dark 'Donnie Darko' because its dark foliage and ears remind us of the cover art for the film of the same name.

It's a nice semi-glossy/velvet texture, similar to a Nigrolaminum but with more pronounced veins. It's been an easy going plant for us and has mothered a few batches of seeds already. 

Native to:
This is a cultivated hybrid, but its parentage is likely linked to species from Colombia and Ecuador.

Water:
Maintain consistently moist but airy substrate. Water when the top third of the pot has dried. Use a chunky, well-draining mix to prevent root rot. Reduce watering slightly during colder months but never allow the roots to fully dry out.

Light:
Requires bright filtered light. Avoid direct sun exposure, which can damage the velvety leaf surface. It can tolerate medium light levels but grows best with bright indirect exposure.

Humidity:
Prefers 70–90 % humidity. Anthurium 'Donnie Darko' is well-suited for terrarium culture or high-humidity grow tents. In open-air setups, regular misting or use of a humidifier is recommended.

Temperature:
Thrives between 20–26 °C, with nighttime temperatures staying above 16 °C. Protect from cold drafts and rapid temperature shifts. Consistent warmth supports steady leaf production and health.
