Fernwood soft tree fern substrate is made from the stem of a native New Zealand tree fern. In contrast to tree fern substrate from South America and Asia, substrate made from New Zealand tree fern is soft, spongy and has fantastic moisture-holding properties.

Fernwood soft tree fern substrate is perfect for creating a jungle floor in your tropical or sub-tropical terrarium or vivarium. It can also be used as a growing substrate for many different plant types including epiphytes, orchids and ferns. As it has the ability to retain moisture for a long period of time without bogging, it is also an excellent hydroponic substrate.

This soft tree fern Substrate has unique and natural properties including:

  • Ability to retain moisture without becoming waterlogged.
  • Well draining and good aeration.
  • Slow to compost due to its natural antibacterial properties.
  • Natural forest floor smell and texture encourages natural burrowing behaviour.
  • Fibrous and soft.
  • Natural look and colour. When wetted the substrate becomes a darker colour.
  • Soft and porous for plant roots to easily grow through the fibre without becoming compacted.
  • Natural capillary action works well when using flood trays for plant irrigation.

Note: This product is manufactured from New Zealand Tree Fern which is sustainably harvested from privately owned forests.

Delivery

Upon order confirmation, orders containing plants will be packaged and sent out on a Monday or Tuesday. This is to ensure minimal time in transit. Parcels are sent via DPD 24 hour and if you enter your phone number at order you will be provided with tracking information and a 1 hour delivery slot. All orders that do not contain plants will be shipped within 2 business days.

Plant Refunds

In the unlikely event that you receive a plant in less than expected condition, please contact us immediately at orders@growtropicals.com and provide images of the item within 24 hours.

We kindly remind you that any plants removed from their pot or substrate, or cut within 7 days of receipt, cannot be returned. This is to ensure the plant has a chance to acclimatise to your environment without the added stress of upheaval. 

Please check our recommended aftercare guide included with your plant, to ensure your plant thrives once it is in your hands.

Returns beyond 7 days cannot be accepted.

Non-Plant Returns

In the unlikely event that you receive an item in less than expected condition, please contact us immediately at orders@growtropicals.com and provide images of the item within 24 hours.

For non-plant related items, we will accept returns up to 14 days if the item is undamaged and in the packaging as it arrived. Please contact us for more info.

Pre-Orders (if applicable)

As preorders are bespoke purchases, we do not offer a refund unless the item is damaged or defective on arrival. Please email orders@growtropicals.com and we aim to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Late or missing refunds (if applicable)

If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again.

Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

If you’ve done all of this and you still have not received your refund yet, please contact us at orders@growtropicals.com. 

Return Shipping

To return your product, you should mail your product to: GrowTropicals, Unit C1, Burley Hill Trading Estate, LS4 2PU, United Kingdom.

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of shipping will be deducted from your refund.

Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you may vary.

You should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don’t guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
