🌿 Plant Care Tips

Hoya verticillata sp. Tanggamus is a striking Hoya variety from the Tanggamus region in Sumatra, Indonesia. This plant is known for its ovate green leaves with pronounced veins that may exhibit colour changes, such as a maroon blush, when exposed to brighter light. It occasionally produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers with a subtle fragrance, making it a desirable addition to Hoya collections.

Native to

Hoya sp. Tanggamus is native to the tropical forests of Sumatra, where it grows as an epiphyte, benefiting from high humidity, filtered light, and warm temperatures under the forest canopy. These conditions influence its preferences for indirect light, stable warmth, and moderate humidity.

Water

Water this Hoya when the top inch of soil feels dry. It is sensitive to root rot, so use well-draining soil and ensure that excess water drains completely after each watering. In winter, reduce watering frequency, as the plant’s growth slows, but avoid letting the soil dry out entirely.

Light

Bright, indirect light suits Hoya sp. Tanggamus best. Too much direct sun can cause leaf burn, but bright filtered sunlight may enhance leaf colour, encouraging a reddish or purple tint. Place it near an east or north-facing window, or filter direct light with a sheer curtain.

Humidity

This Hoya thrives in moderate to high humidity, ideally around 50-60%. It can adapt to standard indoor humidity but benefits from extra humidity provided by a humidifier or regular misting, particularly in dry environments.

Temperature

Hoya sp. Tanggamus prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 21-29°C (70-85°F). It does not tolerate cold and should be kept away from temperatures below 15°C (59°F). Keep it in a warm room, and avoid placing it near drafts or air conditioning vents.
