🌿 Plant Care Tips

Fittonia albivenis, commonly known as the nerve plant or mosaic plant, is a compact, low-growing houseplant admired for its vibrant, veined foliage. The 'Mini' varieties are particularly well-suited for indoor cultivation due to their diminutive size and appeal. These plants typically reach heights of 10 to 15 cm, with a spreading habit that makes them ideal for terrariums or as ground cover in mixed plantings. The leaves are ovate, showcasing a deep green base colour intricately laced with contrasting veins in shades of white, pink, or red, depending on the cultivar.

Native to:
Fittonia albivenis originates from the tropical rainforests of South America, particularly Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and northern Brazil. In their natural habitat, they thrive under the dense canopy of the forest floor, where they experience filtered light and high humidity.

Water:
Maintain consistently moist soil for Fittonia 'Mini' by watering thoroughly when the top third of the potting mix begins to dry out. These plants are sensitive to drought and will wilt dramatically if left dry, though they typically recover quickly once watered. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Light:
Fittonia albivenis 'Mini' thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves, causing them to become brown and crispy. A north-facing windowsill or a spot that receives filtered light is ideal. These plants also perform well under artificial lighting, making them suitable for offices or rooms with limited natural light.

Humidity:
High humidity levels are essential forFittonia albivenis 'Mini'. Aim for humidity above 50%, as dry air can cause leaf edges to brown and may lead to leaf drop. To increase humidity place it on a pebble tray filled with water, or use a humidifier. Their compact size and humidity requirements make them excellent candidates for terrarium cultivation.

Temperature:
Fittonia 'Mini' prefers temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Protect the plant from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations, as exposure to temperatures below 10°C can cause damage. Maintaining a stable, warm environment will promote healthy growth.
