🌿 Plant Care Tips

Bulbophyllum concinnum is a miniature epiphytic orchid native to the lowland tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo, and the Philippines. It grows at elevations from sea level up to about 1 280 m and has a creeping rhizome that produces garlic‑shaped pseudobulbs topped with a single narrow, lance‑to‑oblanceolate leaf that emerges pale green and matures to mid‑green .

In autumn it blooms on a 7 cm inflorescence held beneath the leaf, bearing umbels of up to 8 small flowers (~4 mm across), typically reddish‑brown with textured petals.

Like many Bulbophyllum species, it thrives in warm to hot, shaded environments with high humidity and steady moisture. Its delicate roots are prone to drying out but also dislike standing wet, so consistent moisture without saturation is important. The smaller size and humidity needs make this species well‑suited to terrarium cultivation in the UK.

Native to:
Low‑to‑mid elevation forests from sea level to 1 280 m in countries across Southeast Asia including Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Borneo, India and Singapore. Plants form creeping rhizomes with garlic‑shaped pseudobulbs and a single lance‑shaped leaf per growth; autumn produces umbels of reddish‑brown flowers beneath the leaves.

Water:
Maintain evenly moist conditions—water as the potting medium begins to dry but never allow it to stay bone‑dry or water‑logged. In bark or sphagnum mounts, mist frequently to support its fine root system.

Light:
Bright filtered light to shade—avoid direct sun.

Humidity:
Prefers high humidity: aim for 60 %–90 %. With its smaller size, it is ideal for terrariums in the UK to maintain consistent moisture.

Temperature:
Warm to hot daytime temperatures of 20–30 °C, with night temperatures not dropping below 16 °C, mimicking its native tropical range. Provide good air movement to prevent fungal issues in the high‑humidity environment.
