Begonia lukuana is a captivating species known for its unique, iridescent foliage that shimmers under the right lighting conditions. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, particularly areas with high humidity and filtered light, this plant has adapted to thrive in indoor environments when its specific needs are met. The leaves are typically dark green with mottled silver pattern, but what makes this Begonia truly special is its iridescent quality, which can cause the leaves to appear as though they are glowing with a metallic blue sheen, depending on the angle of the light.
Water: Begonia lukuana requires consistent moisture, but it's crucial to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry, and ensure the pot has good drainage. It's important to prevent water from collecting in the saucer.
Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its iridescent leaves, so it’s best placed near an east or north-facing window where it can receive plenty of filtered light throughout the day.
Humidity: High humidity, preferably above 50%, is essential for maintaining the plant’s health and enhancing its iridescent qualities. This can be achieved by placing the plant on a pebble tray with water or using a humidifier, especially during the drier winter months.
Temperature: Begonia lukuana grows best in warm conditions, ideally between 18°C and 24°C. It should be kept away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes. A minimum temperature of 13°C is recommended to keep the plant in optimal health.

All our plants are stores and/or grown in our nursery under LED lighting so they are in active growth when arriving with you.
The conditions in our nursery are a minimum of 60% humidity and 19C year round.
