Schismatoglottis calyptrata is a striking aroid with broad leaves that are typically marked with subtle silver patterns. This plant's compact growth habit and ability to thrive in low light conditions make it well-suited for indoor cultivation, especially in spaces where light is limited.
Native to: Schismatoglottis calyptrata is native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in the tropical rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It thrives in the damp, shaded understory of these forests, where it grows in the rich, moist soil.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top layer of the soil begins to dry out. Schismatoglottis calyptrata does not tolerate drought well, so avoid letting the soil dry out completely. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Light: This plant prefers low to medium light conditions. Bright, indirect light is ideal, but it can also tolerate lower light levels, making it suitable for areas that receive limited natural sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the leaves to scorch.
Humidity: Schismatoglottis calyptrata thrives in high humidity, ideally between 60% and 80%. If the air in your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water to maintain the required humidity levels. It is also an excellent candidate for terrarium culture, where high humidity can be maintained naturally.
Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 18°C to 26°C for this plant. It prefers warm, stable temperatures and does not tolerate cold drafts or sudden temperature changes. Keep it away from windows or doors where it might be exposed to cool air.
