Philodendron gloriosum 'Dark Form' is a captivating plant native to Colombia, known for its large, heart-shaped leaves with striking pinkish veining and a distinctive crawling growth pattern. This variety, with its darker foliage and pronounced veining, makes a stunning addition to any indoor plant collection. Appreciated for its velvety leaves and relatively easy care requirements, this philodendron is less particular about its growing medium compared to other species in the genus.
Native to: Philodendron gloriosum 'Dark Form' is native to the tropical rainforests of Colombia. These regions provide the humid, shaded conditions that shape the plant's natural growth habits.
Water: Water your Philodendron gloriosum 'Dark Form' little and often, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. It's crucial to avoid letting the soil dry out completely between waterings, yet ensure that the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Light: This plant thrives in medium to bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it’s best positioned in a spot where it receives filtered light, such as near a north or east-facing window. Adequate light helps maintain its vibrant leaf colour and healthy growth.
Humidity: While Philodendron gloriosum 'Dark Form' will grow well outside of a terrarium or cabinet, all tropical plants benefit from higher humidity levels. To achieve this, consider grouping your plants together, or placing them in a frequently used bathroom or kitchen where humidity levels are naturally higher.
Temperature: Maintain a stable temperature range between 18°C to 26°C for optimal growth. Philodendron gloriosum 'Dark Form' is sensitive to cold and drafts, so keep it away from windows or doors where it might be exposed to sudden temperature changes.
Growth Pattern: This philodendron has a crawling growth habit, meaning it grows horizontally along the soil surface. Providing a wide, shallow pot can help accommodate its growth pattern and ensure healthy development. Regularly rotate the pot to maintain even growth and prevent the plant from leaning towards the light source.
