It forms a stemless clump of deep grey-green, sword-shaped leaves edged with curly white threads, the detail that gives it the common name. In late summer a tall panicle of nodding, creamy-white flowers rises above the rosette, sometimes to around two metres.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHardiness and seasons\u003c\/strong\u003e: It carries an RHS H5 rating and shrugs off hard frost, staying evergreen right through winter. Flowering comes late in the season on established clumps. Like other yuccas it wants sharp drainage above all, so a raised or gritty spot pays off over a soggy one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHow and where to grow\u003c\/strong\u003e: Plant in full sun on free-draining soil, whether that is chalk, loam or sand, at any pH. Aspect is best south or east-facing. The leafy clump reaches roughly half a metre to a metre tall and up to 1.5m wide over time, with the flower spike well above that. It handles \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/coastal-plants\"\u003eexposed and coastal gardens\u003c\/a\u003e well.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGetting established and using it\u003c\/strong\u003e: Keep new plants watered through the first growing season, then it fends for itself and takes drought in its stride. It earns its place in gravel gardens, dry sunny borders and big containers, and works as a bold, \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/architectural-foliage\"\u003earchitectural\u003c\/a\u003e full stop among lower planting.
