Unlike the bare-branch spring magnolias, this \u003cstrong\u003eevergreen magnolia\u003c\/strong\u003e holds its glossy, dark, leathery leaves all year and studs its stems with large, fragrant cream flowers that open from velvety buds over a long season from spring into summer. The blooms appear all along the branches rather than only at the tips, so an established plant can be smothered in scent.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt stays neat and bushy, reaching around 2.5m in time and easily kept smaller with a light trim, which makes it a natural fit for compact gardens, \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/plants-for-pots\"\u003elarge pots and containers\u003c\/a\u003e and courtyard corners. It is hardy across most of the UK, but flowers best in a sheltered position, as cold drying winds and late spring frosts can spoil the developing flower buds, so a warm wall pays dividends.
