The name comes from the town of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt, and niederliegende means low-lying: \u003cem\u003eMelissa officinalis\u003c\/em\u003e 'Quedlinburger Niederliegende' forms a bushy, spreading clump that suits pots and the front of a herb bed, and bees visit its small white summer flowers.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSowing and growing\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSow indoors March to May, or outdoors May to June.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSow on the surface and barely cover; the seed needs light to germinate.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eGermination takes 7 to 15 days at 15 to 20°C.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFull sun to partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil; it grows well in containers.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eForms a clump about 30 to 40 cm tall and 30 to 40 cm wide.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePick leaves from about 8 weeks after sowing; small white flowers appear June to August.
