It is a self-clinging, woody climber with broad, oval, toothed, dark green leaves, and from midsummer it carries flat lacecap heads of tiny creamy flowers ringed by large, teardrop-shaped white bracts, the 'angel wings' of the name. The bracts are bigger than those of the Japanese hydrangea vine and hang elegantly from the flower heads.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHardiness and seasons.\u003c\/strong\u003e It is rated H5 by the RHS, so it is hardy through severe winters in most of the UK, though it appreciates shelter from cold, drying winds and late frosts.
