Every frond is finely divided into narrow segments, and every frond tip and side branch ends in a neat crest, so the whole rosette reads like a mound of dark green parsley. It is a celebrated selection of a British native fern and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Older catalogues sell it as Dryopteris austriaca; that name is a synonym of dilatata, and this is the same plant.

Hardiness and seasons. Rated H6 by the RHS, hardy anywhere in the UK to around -20C.
